Juniperus virginiana (Red Cedar)

Pioneering evergreen tree of meadows and disturbed land. Tolerates a wide variety of soil types. Prefers full sun and drier areas. Provides important protective and nesting cover and food for birds, especially the Cedar Waxwing. Important wildlife habitat and forage, and hosts the Juniper Hairstreak.
